Empowerment of women is an important element in sustainable development. Proper understanding and cooperation of both men and women, sharing responsibilities of productive and reproductive activities preserving dignity of all members in the family is a vital factor improving living standards of marginalised rural communities.

In rural context women are more burdened with both production and reproduction chores. Some socio cultural norms and taboos deprive their access for economic resources and discourage participation for decision making at all levels.

FRIENDS pays especial attention to economically and socially empower women by implementing livelihood programmes ensuring men’s support and participation. The programmes are designed to improve knowledge which needed to understand their situation and to cope with stresses and shocks.
